What it is about:
The Mobile Therapy Unit project supports the social inclusion of children with disabilities through home-based therapy services in rural areas of the Pondicherry district.
The Mobile Therapy Unit project can open a glimmer of hope for many children and young people who still live, together with their families, in fear of society’s judgement.
Children with disabilities, who live in Indian villages, have little access to rehabilitation services and school and social integration, often living confined to their huts.
In most parts of India, regardless of state or religion, giving birth to a child with a disability is seen as a ‘misfortune’, a result of the wrath of the gods or the embodiment of the family’s sin. Parents feel guilty and responsible and this stigma and guilt turn into isolation or segregation of the child and thus neglect in its development process.
This project stems from the need to reach these children with various disabilities in remote places and allow them access, directly from home, to state-of-the-art therapies, paying special attention to the mother’s role as the child’s natural teacher.
Each child will be accompanied on his or her own personal journey, trying to reduce his or her level of dependency and help improve his or her daily activities and provide educational support to develop his or her individual abilities.
What you can do:
y activating distance support for the Mobile Therapy Unit project, your help will reach 51 children with disabilities in the villages of the Pondicherry district.
The children and young people involved have severe mental disabilities, often accompanied by a physical disability.
These children are confined to their homes without access to any services due to financial problems or because the facilities are often far away.
The minimum recommended fee for activating a distance support is €350. It will allow these children to have access to specialised therapeutic treatment tailored to each one of them, so that they can have their own personal rehabilitation programme that will make them more independent even in small daily activities such as meals, moving around and personal care.
What it provides:
Distance support will provide:
By supporting this project you will not only help the child, but also their family, to have a dignified and meaningful life.
If you too want to change their lives, help us create dignity and awareness and reach out to those who would otherwise be unreachable.
In 2023, the project was partially supported by the Eight per Thousand funds from the Waldensian Church.
